Irailak 10: Species number 28, The Lesser Purple Emperor
There are some butterflies that are really special for the English butterfly collectors. One of these is the Purple Emperor. Matthew Oates is an expert on this butterfly. In fact, it is an obsession for him due to its beauty and also the fact that it is quite rare to see in England. Here, although it is still rare, it`s more common than England. However, today was the first time in my life that I saw one but it wasn`t until I got home and consulted a book that I realized that it was really the Purple Emperor. I still have to wait for full confirmation as there is another one that is very similar, the Lesser Purple Emperor, which is also quite rare. As a hommage to this butterfly and Matthew Oates who has dedicated his life to this butterfly I have written this entry to the blog in English!
STOP PRESS! In the end, it was the Lesser Purple Emperor so I still haven`t seen the Purple Emperor. Maybe next year? However it`s also true to say that here the Lesser Purple Emperor is much less common than the Purple Emperor so it`s really special to have seen one here.
